What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a drug-free form of healthcare based on restoring and maintaining proper function of the spine. The spine provides structural support for the body, as well as, protection for the primary components of the nervous system.

Chiropractic philosophy is centered on promoting good health through relieving nervous system irritation. Nerve stress is removed through non-invasive, gentle manipulations called “adjustments”. Generally, this technique employs gentle pressure or a shallow thrust to restore optimal motion.

An adjustment is sometimes accompanied by a pop noise, which results from the joint’s release of nitrogen gas. Adjustments not only restore proper spinal and nervous system function, but they also promote the body’s natural healing process.

To date, many studies of the chiropractic adjustment have proven its effectiveness, safety and high levels of patient satisfaction.

How chiropractic works.

Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing and treating neuromuscular disorders, primarily through manual adjustment or manipulation of the spine. This approach is predicated on the principle that proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, especially the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Chiropractic treatments aim to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, or through repetitive stress, such as sitting without proper back support. By adjusting the affected joints, chiropractors alleviate pain and muscle tightness, allowing tissues to heal and promoting the overall health and functionality of the patient.

Chiropractic techniques we practise.

We believe that everyone is different. Therefore different approaches need to be considered to effectively help them. Our chiropractors are trained in the following techniques:

  • Activator — This technique uses a handheld instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust.

  • Toggle Recoil — A specific and gentle chiropractic technique used to correct the positioning of the upper cervical vertebra, without the use of any twisting, bending, or cracking of the neck.

  • Diversified — After identifying which vertebrae have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is applied to free up “stuck” spinal joints.

  • Gonstead — This full spine approach uses X-rays and a heat-sensing instrument for a thorough evaluation and documented results.

  • Thompson Drop —A special table is used with this technique to reduce the amount of energy required to adjust your spine.
